While news of deals with RVCA and West 49 have been blanketing the Billabong related headlines of late, the Australian company quietly purchased four retail doors in Byron Bay, Australia.
Billabong purchased Big Kahuna, Bay Action, S-cape Byron, and Billabong from brothers Gary and Mark Timperley, who opened their first door nearly 30 years ago according to the Byron News.
Gary and Mark will continue on as store managers for at least the next two years and keep their staff.
“I think these are always difficult decisions, but the fact we are selling to one of our original customers and then remaining in the business in a management capacity makes it a little easier,” Mark said in the News article.
“When we started to talk about selling the businesses we realized we hadn’t stopped working since we left school in Fourth Form (Year 10).
“We are proud of what we have built and I think we are both comforted to know that an authentic surf brand will now help us build on those foundations.”
