Sports wear these days are being made from many unusual materials, including coconut fibers, bamboo, and charcoal. But Moving Comfort, a company that specializes in sports bras and women’s underwear, has got to win the gold medal for strange components.
Recycled coffee grounds are being constructed into the cups of their sports bras as a way to control moisture and provide odor control. Moving Comfort unveiled this surprising product at the Outdoor Retailer ’09 Summer Market and attracted passersby to their booth by (of course) giving away free lattes.
There were three designs on display in the coffee-ground line of bras, including the Juno, Vixen and Venus. Each bra is made for outdoor pursuits like mountain biking, trail running and hiking. Seamless interiors, molded cups, and front adjustable straps are all features that a woman may be looking for in a bra that is meant to be worn comfortably outside, all day. But will coffee in the cups really work to wick away moisture and keep nasty odors away? Moving Comfort thinks so, but female consumers won’t know for sure until the bras become available in spring of 2010.
Either way, kudos to Moving Comfort for thinking outside the box by inventing a way to make outdoor clothing with materials that are recycled and good for the environment.
