Twenty years after Nike entered the cross-training category with the original Air Trainer — made famous by Bo Jackson’s classic “Bo Knows” commercials — the company is prepping for the next evolution with the July 1 debut of the Trainer 1. Designers went back and reexamined the original shoe for inspiration and reengineered the design to incorporate the company’s latest technological innovations. For instance, the 11.5-ounce men’s and women’s mid-top style features a flexible, patent-pending DiamondFLX outsole, a new lacing system and an inner Dynamic Fit sleeve for forefoot lockdown, and a Max Air heel. High-top and low-top versions of the $90 shoe are expected to drop at sporting goods and athletic stores later this year, along with limited-edition versions of the shoe in a variety of colorways and material makeups.

Run Like a Girl
Herzogenaurach, Germany-based Adidas is giving women some attention with its new AdiZero Aegis, a women’s-specific stability running shoe. The new trainer features the brand’s new ForMotion technology, a panel of stretch material over the midfoot of the shoe that supports the foot during running while reducing torsion stiffness. A women’s-specific last adds flexibility in the forefoot with specially positioned flex grooves, while the company’s Adiprene cushioning aids propulsion. The $110 style will hit running channels, Adidas stores and other accounts for fall.
